CCTV Surveillance Systems

CCTV System

Benefits of CCTV System

Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) are used in a variety of circumstances to provide video surveillance. It is an incredibly useful tool for employers for a large variety of reasons, most of which are obvious – such as:

  • Preventing crimes- it helps you identify how a crime happened and to spot it in action.
  • Protecting Employees–it protects them against false allegations which are very common depending on the nature of the business.
  • Preventing Employee theft- a lot of times it is the employees themselves who steal from the business, statistics and focus have shown this.
  • Keeping records- it serves as an automated system for keeping records and can allow you to prove to clients and check yourself that their shipments were indeed deployed.
  • Inspiring confidence- it is also useful to the customers themselves by creating a safe feeling environment. It allows you to spot crimes against customers.
  • Settling disputes- it helps to know who is in the wrong when a customer complains about your services.
  • Evidence has shown that it has reduced the rate of robbery against most financial institutions.

The benefits are immeasurable; however, it also aids the police and other security agencies in curbing situational crimes.

Options, Availability & Recommendations

There are several options that are available to people when it comes to security cameras, and like everything else, these options each have their pros and cons. The two most popular surveillance systems that users make use of are the traditional analog CCTV (closed circuit television) and IP (Internet protocol) network cameras.

Traditional Analog CCTV cameras work by transmitting analog video data over a coaxial cable to a digital video recorder (DVR). The DVR converts the video data that it receives to a digital format and compresses it so that it can be stored and viewed later.

IP cameras, on the other hand, are able to capture the analog data and then convert it to a digital format inside the very same camera. Once this is done, rather than transmit the data over a coax cable, the data is streamed over a local network. These cameras also work exceedingly well with NVR’s (network video recorders), which perform the same function as the DVR listed above.

When there are several solutions available for a service, people can’t help but wonder which service is more beneficial to them and to their needs. This same question has been raised about IP cameras and CCTV cameras, so here are the main reasons why IP cameras work better in homes than their traditional analog CCTV cousins.

1. Higher Image Resolution

One of the main reasons why people invest in surveillance cameras and equipment is because they want to be able to have a visual record of something that may have transpired or is going to transpire. I doubt that there is anyone who invests time and money into a surveillance system just because they want a pretty addition to their sites. People want to be able to see what is being recorded, and IP cameras give that to them on a far better platter than traditional CCTV cameras do.

Analog CCTV cameras normally have much lower resolutions when compared to IP cameras. Analog cameras max out at approximately 0.4 – 0.5 megapixels while their counterparts can go up to 5 megapixels. This allows the images and videos captured by IP cameras to come out crisp and sharp, whereas the analog images tend to be slightly blurry and fuzzy. Many people might pass off the image quality as a minor factor that has nothing to do with the security of your home. However, if something was to happen and you needed video proof as evidence, you would prefer to have an IP camera due to its amazing image quality.

2. Enhanced Remote Access

Many cameras have the ability to be accessed remotely, which is one of the main reasons some people love them so much. This feature allows you to monitor your home or office security from any location by simply gaining access to the network that the camera is connected too. This comes in handy in many different situations. For instance, if someone is away on vacation and they want to check whether or not their site is still safe, they will be able to so with an IP camera. Most analog CCTV cameras, however, do not provide this feature, except for HDCVI camera systems. These systems can operate as CCTV cameras, but they also have the added option of being plugged into your home network, and this will give you the ability to access it remotely.

In an age where technology is permeating through every aspect of security, it is no wonder that people want to be able to access their security feed from anywhere in the world and on any smart device. IP cameras give you this opportunity, and it does so without any loss to the data stream as people will still be presented with top quality images.

3. Enhanced Security

Now, anyone who has ever seen a sci-fi movie that depicts the world in the future knows that security breaches are a real threat that we will face in the future, but we have them now as well. Lucky enough for most people, “Ethan Hunt” isn’t going to come break into your home late at night looking for the government’s secrets. Regardless of this, people still want to make sure that their surveillance systems are secure from external interferences.

IP cameras are able to transmit data with little to no interference, even if the data is being transmitted wirelessly. Many of the IP cameras on the market have encryption capabilities and the data is encrypted before it is transmitted. However, analog cameras are physically grounded, and this makes them extremely vulnerable once someone is able to gain access to their physical location. Essentially the fact that CCTV cameras are more susceptible to interference makes IP cameras a better security option to have installed in your site.

4. Efficiency

In this day and age, people tend to gravitate towards items that function more efficiently because it saves them money in the long run. More of them are making use of efficient lighting and home automation, and it is no surprise that they choose to add IP surveillance cameras to the list.

IP surveillance cameras are powered through POE (power over Ethernet) adapters that have been built into the camera. They can be powered through an Ethernet cable, which makes them more efficient with the use of power and also with the use of space. Analog CCTV cameras have to be powered individually, and this leads to the use of a lot of energy especially if you want your surveillance system installed in different places around your site.

The power that drives efficiency is essentially getting more out of less, and that is what IP cameras represent and function as, which is another reason why they are an excellent choice for customers.

ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM

In the field of physical security and information security, Access control is the selective restriction of access to a place or other resource. Access Control is beyond holding a badge up to a card reader to unlock a door or release a barrier so that they can get into or out of a building. And, of course, this is a primary function for most installations. The capabilities of modern access control systems extend far beyond simply controlling who can get into a building.

Benefits of Access Control

Improve payroll efficiency: Modern access control systems can supply data in a format that is readily compatible with payroll packages, so the tedious and error-prone process of entering staff attendance data manually can be completely eliminated. Even in moderately sized organizations, this leads to useful savings and efficiency improvements in the payroll department and, for larger organizations, the savings can be very substantial.

Enhance building security: Now let’s look at what an access control system can do inside the building. It can, of course, be used to limit access to specific areas, ensuring that only authorized staff can enter them. Particularly in multiple occupancy buildings, it is often also useful to tie the operation of lifts into the access control system, so that users can only send the lifts to the floors occupied by the company for which they work. It’s worth noting that access control can also take into account the time of day and day of the week. This means that staff that has access to a building or an office during normal working hours can be barred at other times. Conversely, cleaning staff can be allowed access only after the normal working day is finished.

Reduce energy bills and protect the environment: For many users, however, one of the biggest benefits of installing a modern access control system is that it greatly reduces their energy bills and, therefore, their carbon emissions. This is achieved by arranging for the access control system to exchange data with the building management system. Since the access control system knows which areas of the building are occupied, once this interchange of data has been enabled, it is a relatively simple matter to configure the building management system so that it automatically turns off unnecessary lighting and reduces the heating in unoccupied areas.
